Ascension
For the dreamers. For the ambitious. For those who dare to aspire, to strive and to hope. This one's for y'all.
Expectations cause disappointments, they say,
For the world cannot be controlled by us,
And yet, we never lose hope, come what may,
No matter how daunting the journey is, nor how arduous.
At the mercy of her capricious whims and fancies,
Enduring both her mildness, and then her fury,
Our battle for mastery over her shall never cease.
She may send thunderous storms our way,
Crashing down upon the helm, flooding the deck,
Destroying the work of years in a single day,
Still will we continue to fight, and repair every wreck.
And then, when the crucible finally comes to an end,
We emerge upon the other side, battered but victorious,
And now, it is to our will that we shall tame and bend
That which by its very nature cannot be tamed or bent-
And that is, indeed, a feat quite glorious.
With cautions of tale and terror they try to warn us
Of the dangers of reaching too far, aiming too high,
Upon Icarus' wings we fly, with Bellerophon to Olympus
Upon quests that are doomed to fail, and we're fated to die.
'Leave the gods all the glory', they plead,
For it is only they who can handle its light,
Forsake all your ambition, your pride, your greed,
You're destined to fail, show some foresight.
And still we carry on,
Unheeding of their doubts and fear,
They, who are the carrion,
That feed upon all that we hold dear.
We march today, through Hell if we must,
Enduring without a cry of pain or a scream,
We march for all that is right, and all that is just,
We march for the very right of Man to dream.
It is not wings of wax upon which we soar,
We do not let go of Pegasus' reins and fall,
We'll always keep moving, forever want more,
For our dreams are not small; we want it all.
They say that the only limit is the sky,
But it is for the stars that we reach,
It is towards the stars that we fly,
It is the gods that we besiege.
