The Master Orator Diaries

Salvete, mi amici!

So, it's been a long time, and I'm a little out of touch with philosophy, but I do have something else I wanna share with all of you. For all those master orators out there, I want to help you. Ergo, I have compiled a few Latin phrases that are bound to make you sound sophisticated, elegant, and smart. Memorize these, and I promise you, you are going ad astra.

Let's go right into this!

a) Invictus Maneo - My personal favorite, it means "I remain unvanquished"

b) Ad astra per aspera - With the meaning "To the stars through difficulties", for those who let nothing deter them from their goals, this one is good if you want to awe your peers.

c) Contra felicem, vix deus vires habet -  Use this if you are one of those lucky guys who always win at Monopoly and want to boast, or if you know someone like this so that you can shake your head and say this to them. It's slightly over the top, though, so you should probably use it to describe icons such as Alexander the Great. He truly symbolises this statement, which means "Against the lucky, even the gods are powerless"

d) Morior Invictus- A little sobering perhaps, this means "Death is unconquerable", it's a reminder of our own mortality.

e) Alea Iacta Est - Said by Caesar during the conquest of Spain and means "the die is cast". You can use it before a great venture to sound cool

f) Another one of all-time favorites, Fletere Si Nequero Superos Acheronta Movebo means "If I cannot move heaven, I shall raise hell". Spine-tingly, isn't it? Plus, if you have that kind of an all-or-nothing personality, this is perfect for you.

g) Non ducor, duco -  For all those of you with the urge to lead, to be at the head of the pack, the alpha, the king, the ultimate one having the last say, use this one to remind your peers who's in charge. FYI, it means "I am not led, I lead"

f) Ignis Aurum Probat - "Fire tests gold". Use this to motivate yourself on a bad day.

g) Malo Mori Quam Foedari - The Latin equivalent of "सर कटेगा पर झुकेगा नहीं", it means "Death Before Honour"

h) Dulce Periculum - Danger is sweet. How very badass. I love it!

So, that was it for today. Tell me if you want more in the comments below. Cheers, and goodbye!
